I believe at one time there was a link on this website of engravings from the Spears Cemetery in Upper Whitehead. A page on this website states that it is now almost completely overgrown. I am a descendant, and interested in seeing these images. Many thanks.

I am Also a Spears Descendant doing research in Halifax, NS. The earliest cemetery in the area was on Spears Hill just south of Spears Lake and is now completely overgrown and obliterated. (Spears Hill Cemetery is on the east side of the highway that goes to Port Felix, before the turnoff to the village of Whitehead. It can only be accessed by means of a private road, actually a very long driveway to someone's home. To get to it requires some serious bush-whacking (unless someone has recently cut a path but I doubt it). The old-timers told me that when coming in from fishing, the hill was used as a landmark because of the number of white stones upon the hillside that caught the sun. Sadly there are only about three or four stones visible. Marcia Munroe has transcribed the visible stones and they are on the Guys Co GenWeb site, but the cemetery is not called Spears Hill - Marcia calls it a "Private Cemetery". I checked the website and found this link. www.angelfire.com/ca4/Patsy/whitehead.html There photos of the cemetery and a stone for Lucy (Spears) Hanes among others. Do know where she fits in yet. There was also Spears Road, Spears Lake and Spears Cove apparently.
